Emily Kaufman Baumann | Senior Academic Advisor I

Biography

Emily began working as an academic advisor for the Department of Political Science in 2014. She earned Bachelors of Arts degrees in English and French from Southern Methodist University in 2012 and a Master of Science degree in Higher Education Administration from Texas A&M University in 2014. She was awarded Superior Service Award from the College of Liberal Arts in 2016 for her contributions to the college.

Emily is an active member of the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA), the Texas Academic Advising Network (TEXAAN), and Texas A&M’s University Advisors & Counselors organization (UAC). She regularly presents at local, state, and national conferences. Her research interests include student mental health and coping, retention programming, and the assessment of academic advising. A partial list of Emily’s professional works can be found below.

Emily lives in the Bryan/College Station area with her husband, Brad, and their two black cats, Bob and Tucker. She is an avid quilter and a collector of Starbucks “You Are Here” mugs—both her mug collection and examples of her quilting work can be found in her office.

Emily’s advice for students: Ask for help early, as soon as you suspect there may be a problem or concern. As academic advisors we can do a lot to help students (even with non-academic concerns!), but the longer you wait to get assistance the fewer options we will have to help.
